Panthers Grand Slam Twice in Victory over Tigers

Bronx, NY | The BMCC baseball team took on the conference-leading Queensborough Tigers in front of a home crowd at Roberto Clemente Park on Tuesday afternoon. With a pair of grand slams off the bats of Rene Adorno and Rafael Ballenilla, the Panthers cruised to an 18-5 final score to hand the Tigers their first CUNY Athletic Conference loss of the season.

Trailing 0-1 in the second inning, the Panthers broke into the scoring column with a bases-loaded balk followed by the first grand slam of the game from the freshman left fielder Adorno. Borough of Manhattan continued the rally with 4 more runs to close out the inning with a 9-1 lead. The Tigers began to mount a comeback as they narrowed the lead to 9-5 and continued to pressure with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, but reliever Brandon Torres enter the game and force a pop-out to end the inning. After picking up five runs, the game would reach the 10-run limit when sophomore catcher Ballenilla stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and crushed the ball over the left field fence into the Harlem River.

Game 2 of the four-game series against the Tigers is set for 4pm at Preller Field this Friday.
