New York, NY | Playing host during the opening round of the Region 15 Tournament, the #3 Lady Panthers were up against a familiar CUNYAC opponent in the #6 LaGuardia Red Hawks on Tuesday night. The BMCC women's basketball team put on a show for the home crowd on Senior Night, they cashed in on 24 second chance points to come out on top in a lopsided 75-55 victory.
In their fourth win over the Red Hawks this season, BMCC outrebounded LaGuardia by a wide margin (41-26) to create numerous second chance opportunities. Leading the pack for BMCC was
Ashley Brooks with 16 rebounds to go along with her 20 points and 5 assists, while fellow CUNYAC All-Star
Natalija Dubrovina piled on with 15 points and 5 assists. Gigi Maguire turned in one of her top performances in the final home game this season, the sophomore went 5-for-9 from the floor to finish with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Freshmen
Maryam Toure and
Jehosheba Foster contributed with 5 rebounds apiece.
"We were outrebounded in our last game against LaGuardia, so we really stressed rebounding all week in practice" commented
Ben Newberg following the game. "Tonight's win was a team effort, everybody contributed and we were able to outrebound them by 15."
With the win the Lady Panthers will travel to Westchester Community College, the site for the 2017 Region 15 Tournament, where they will take on the #2 Sullivan Generals in the semifinal round on Saturday.
