Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | By Dakota Olson

Women’s Basketball wins 5 in a row after defeating Queensborough 66-43

Bayside, NY | The Lady Panthers put their perfect record on the line when they took on the Queensborough Tigers on the road Tuesday night. In a contest between two CUNY schools, BMCC once again set the tone on defense by holding the Tigers to just 43 points to come away with a 23 point victory to improve to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in the CUNY Athletic Conference.

The reigning conference player of the week Nikola Zilakova provided a bulk of the offense for the Lady Panthers. The sophomore guard knocked down 5 three pointers en route to 30 points in the game to set a new career-high in scoring. Karina Ortega and Maryam Toure kept the glass clean and provided BMCC with numerous second-chance opportunities with 11 rebounds apiece. With 14 points, Ortega recorded her first double-double of the 2017-18 season. After walking on with the team in the offseason, Jessycca Myers has continued to impress the coaching staff as the season progresses, she recorded 13 points and 9 rebounds to help the Panthers remain undefeated.

"A large part of our early success can be attributed to our captains Nikola and Karina. They have put in a lot of hard work and they continue to push our team to get better every day" commented Coach Newberg. "The early win streak is great, but our goal is to be playing our best basketball come playoff time."

In his third year at the helm, Ben Newberg has made it clear that his team's focus is on the games that lie ahead. Following a short break, the Lady Panthers will return to action for a stretch of three straight home games beginning on Tuesday when they face off against the Hostos Caimans.
