New York, NY | After going 11-0 in the regular season, the top-seeded BMCC men's soccer team took on the #8 Dutchess Falcons in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XV Tournament. Fueled by a pair of goals from
Jahvaughnie Johnson and
Aboubacar Keita, the Panthers won 5-1 to advance to the regional semifinals.
At the end of the first half the Panthers held a one goal lead despite dominating their opponent on both sides of the ball with 12 shots while holding the Falcons without a shot. CUNYAC Coach of the Year
Modou Seck quickly got things turned around after speaking to his team at halftime. In the first four minutes of the second half, the Panthers offense came alive with back to back goals scored by Keita and Johnson. It was not until the 83
rd minute that Dutchess recorded their first shot of the match, coming off a long through ball that the Falcons forward took and snuck by the keeper to cut the deficit to 3-1. Any hopes of a Falcons comeback were cut short by another pair of goals in rapid succession when
Deschanel Goulbourne scored in the 85
th followed by Keita in the 86
th for his second goal of the day.
With the victory, the Panthers will advance to the semifinal round of the tournament where they will host the #4 Suffolk Sharks. Stay tuned for more details on game time and location.
