New York, NY | The Lady Panthers were looking for their 8
th straight win on Saturday afternoon when they took the court against their CUNYAC rival, the Hostos Caimans. Despite limiting the Caimans to 35% shooting from the field, turnovers crushed the Lady Panthers chances at a comeback and Hostos escaped with a 63-49 victory.
BMCC kept the game close through the first ten minutes, with the score tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter, but the Caimans jumped out to a 27-14 lead in the by forcing 12 turnovers in the second quarter. The lead would prove to be insurmountable for the Lady Panthers and they picked up their fourth loss of the season.
With the scoreboard lopsided for much of the game, the Lady Panthers showed their mental toughness by continuing to battle in the second half. Team captain
Ashley Brooks led the way with 13 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 blocks for BMCC, point guard
Nikola Zilakova added on with 11 points of her own., while
Natalija Dubrovina and
Eugenie Maguire had 8 points apiece.
The women's basketball team will return to this week when the Bronx Broncos come to BMCC gymnasium for a CUNYAC showdown on Tuesday night.
