Bellerose, NY | Following a string of loses to start the season, the Panthers will be looking to get back on track as they begin their CUNYAC regular season schedule.
While BMCC struggled offensively early on in the season, they appear to be getting hot at the plate at the right time. In Wednesday's doubleheader loss to Tomkins Cortland, the Panthers scored a total of 9 runs on 16 hits, including a 2-run homerun from centerfielder
Erick Smith. Smith finished the game with 3 hits and a run scored, meanwhile freshman Geovanny Henriquez drove in 2 runs while going 3-for-4 with a stolen base.
The team followed up this performance with a 5-2 loss to Jefferson Community College yesterday. After digging themselves in a 5-0 hole by the fifth inning, the Panthers began to rally. Three straight walks drawn by
Nathaniel Rivera,
Rafael Ballenilla and
Gregory Clemens Jr. would load the bases for Henriquez, the shortstop responded with a 2-run double to left field. An infield single from
Justin Perez would load the bases again, but the Panthers failed to capitalize and the comeback fell short.
The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on their CUNYAC rivals, the Bronx Broncos. First pitch is set for 4pm.
