BMCC Men’s Basketball Season Ends in Regional Semifinals

New Rochelle, NY | In the semifinal round of the Region XV Tournament, the sixth-seeded Panthers were matched up against the #7 Rockland Hawks after both teams upset their opponents in the opening round.

In the first four minutes of play, BMCC had fallen behind by 10 points, but the Panthers managed to overcome the slow start to tie the score at 26-26. A three from Brandon Williams gave the Panthers the lead momentarily before the Hawks answered with a three of their own. Both teams would go back and forth for the remainder of the half, with neither side able to put together a run, the half ended with Rockland on top 39-35.

After a close first half, Rockland took control of the game with a 21-6 run early on in the period. With a comfortable lead, the Hawks relied on clock management while making the most of their free throw attempts to walk away with a 96-82 victory.

For the second consecutive game, Kenneth Coar recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, meanwhile his co-captain Jonathan Jones joined him with a double-double (13 points, 14 rebounds) of his own. Williams led the team with 23 points, while shooting an impressive 55% from the field.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our eight sophomores #3 Jamel Harris, #5 Neil Veira, #10 Matthew Boyd, #11 Brandon Williams, #13 Dominek Tucker, #22 Jonathan Jones, #25 Patrick Johnson, and #44 Kenneth Coar for all of their contributions to BMCC, and wish them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors, on and off the court.
