Queens, NY | Less than a week after falling to LaGuardia in the CUNYAC Semifinals, the Lady Panthers made the cross-town trip to Queens for a rematch against the Red Hawks in the opening round of the Region 15 tournament.
The Lady Panthers started the game on a 14-6 run sparked by a layup-and-1 from CUNYAC All-Star
Ashley Brooks, but the Red Hawks would answer with a 12-4 run to tie the score at 18 to end the quarter. LaGuardia would push their lead to double digits before the Panthers rallied back in the final minute. They would finish the half with a
Takisha Weekes fastbreak layup on the assist from
Omicamy Ramos to cut the deficit to 7 points.
BMCC came out slow in the second half, giving up 5 straight points before
Ashley Duplan sank consecutive jumpers to stop the Red Hawks momentum. But it would be all LaGuardia after that, led by the CUNYAC Player of the Year, the Red Hawks extended their lead to 22 at the end of the third quarter. After the team combined for just 5 points in the third, Freshman
Jermyrah Napoleon provided a spark off the bench in the fourth as she scored 4 quick points to jumpstart the Panthers offense. In the end the Lady Panthers fell to the CUNY Champions by a final score of 72-46, Brooks led BMCC with 12 points, while
Kiara Atkins finished with 8.
