New York, NY |Â The women's soccer team faced off against the Nassau Lions on Friday afternoon at Pier 40. After the Lions ran away with the match in their first meeting this season, the Lady Panthers would be looking to even the score. Despite a 1-0 lead at halftime, BMCC was unable to hold off the furious Nassau attack in the second half and would lose by a final score of 7-2.
The Panthers were on the board early in this match, in the 9th minute freshman Valeria Alingue connecting with
Nancy Vital on a through ball in the middle of the field that Vital buried into the back of the net. With a one goal deficit, Nassau turned up the tempo and began to fire shot after shot in on goal. But the Lions offense could not get past the Lady Panthers goalkeeper
Dashka Fonrose, who recorded an impressive 11 first half saves before going on to finish with a season-high 18 saves.
In the second half, the Lions continued to press the Panthers defense and scored several times in to put BMCC away. But the Lady Panthers showed their determination late in the game when their offense went on a breakaway that resulted in
Derrieka Johnson finding the striker Alingue for their final goal of the match.
The Lady Panthers will be back in action tomorrow when they take on the Kingsborough Wave in Brooklyn at 1pm.
