Baseball Swept in Season Finale

Bronx won both games of a conference doubleheader on Saturday

BROOKLYN, NY | The Borough of Manhattan Community College baseball team's 2015 season came to an end on Saturday afternoon after losing both games of CUNYAC doubleheader to Bronx Community College in Brooklyn, NY. The Broncos claimed game one by the score of 15-0 and won a shootout in game two by the score of 37-14. With the losses, the Panthers—who were eliminated from conference and regional postseason contention—finish the season with a 2-24 (1-11 CUNYAC) record, while Bronx improves to 12-10 (10-2 CUNYAC).

BMCC struggled to generate any offense off of Bronx's Andy Caba in game one, but the Broncos themselves had seemingly no shortage of runs. After grabbing a 5-0 lead in the first inning, Bronx posted a run in each of the next three innings before posting a seven-spot in the fifth inning. The Panthers had no answer and fell 15-0 in five innings.

Reginald German (1-2) pitched 4.2 innings, striking out three batters. Divine Hawkins went 2-2 with a double and was the Panthers' top performer at the plate.

Bronx grabbed an early lead again in game two, this time scoring four runs in the first inning, but sophomore catcher Wilson Aristy—playing in his last game for BMCC—put the Panthers on the board with a RBI triple that brought fellow sophomore Gerson Perez home.

In the second inning, right fielder Terrance Biel scored shortstop Frandy Nunez and left fielder Jose Ochoa with his first triple of the season to bring the Panthers back within one run (4-3). Bronx fired back with eight runs in the third, but a six-run inning—highlighted by a three-run home run of the bat of Biel—by the Panthers kept them within striking range.

Bronx pulled away in the fourth though, scoring 11 runs and then 14 in the fifth and cruised to a 37-14 win. Mario Padron (0-4) took the loss after pitching three innings and allowing 14 runs. Aristy, Hawkins, Perez and Christopher Garcia all provided relief.

Biel had a career game in game two, going 3-4 with a home run, a triple and six RBI's. Aristy went 3-4 with two doubles, a triple and an RBI.

On behalf of the BMCC athletic department, we would like to thank all of the sophomores on the baseball roster who will be graduating in May for their efforts and hard work and wish them nothing but the best in the years to come.
