BMCC Beats Bronx in Overtime Nailbiter

New York, NY  | Panthers squared off against the Bronx Broncos on Saturday in a CUNYAC Final rematch. The teams battled back and forth with 8 lead changes and neither side gaining more than a 7 point lead. Bronx tied up the score in the final seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime. It was not until the final buzzer sounded that the game was decided, with the Panthers coming out on top 86-84.

Both teams came out firing from the 3-point line, with the Broncos sinking 6 and the Panthers with 5 threes in the first half. While BCC began to miss from deep in the second half, going 2-14 from behind the arc, the Panthers continued to hit, allowing them to pull ahead by 7 points with five minutes remaining. But the Broncos would not quit, and a pair of free throws from Jatton Pierce-Bias would send the game into overtime.

The Panthers began overtime with back-to-back three pointers to jump out to a 6 point lead. While the Broncos were fighting their way back into the game, they faced an uphill battle with 2 of their players fouled out of the game. With 3 seconds remaining, Joshua Armstrong was fouled driving to the basket, the freshman would hit a pair of clutch free throws to give his team a 2 point lead. On the final possession of the game, the Broncos moved the ball down the court and put up a last second shot that bounced off the rim.

With the huge win, the Panthers are right in the middle of the conference playoff hunt. After their midseason break, the men's basketball team will be back in action on January 14th.
