Brooklyn, NY Â |Â The Panthers split games in a doubleheader against Kingsborough last night. The women's team squeaked out an overtime win, while the men's team could not overcome a 20-point first half deficit, and fell to the Wave 69-66.
Playing in their season opener, the Lady Panthers needed some time to get started, putting up just 4 points in the first quarter. After the slow start,
Ashley Brooks managed to get the ball rolling for BMCC. The freshman forward put up 17 points while grabbing 17 rebounds to lead her team to victory.
After digging themselves into a hole in the first half, the Panthers went on a run in the final 10 minutes to draw within striking distance of the Wave, but a missed three on the final possession kept the Panthers from sending the game into overtime. In a losing effort,
Kenneth Coar and
Joshua Armstrong both finished the game with double-doubles, while
Matthew Boyd led the team with 18 points.
BMCC basketball travels to Orange County on Thursday, but will return home for a men's and women's doubleheader against Sullivan County this Saturday. Tipoff for the women's game is set for 2PM with the men's game following.
