Panthers Advance to Region XV Semi-Finals

New York, New York - The #2 seeded Panthers played host to the Vikings of Westchester Community College in the opening round of the 2012 NJCAA Region XV playoffs.

The Panthers got on the board first as Kevin Romero (El Salvador) found Brandon Baird (Brooklyn, NY) cutting to the box, and Brandon put it right past the goalie for a 10th minute goal and a 1-0 Panthers lead. The Panthers, who controlled the ball for the majority of the first half, added to their lead in the 36th minute when Kalief Lindo (Jamaica, NY) received a great pass from Stephanos Hondrakis (Athens, Greece) and put the Panthers up 2-0 which is where it stood until halftime.

Westchester trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with a 55th minute goal by Michael Portanova. The Panthers quickly answered with a goal in the 63rd minute by Brandon Baird, his 2nd of the game, this one assisted by Anton Wesener (Italy) for a 3-1 Panthers lead. Westchester got the game close with an 86th minute goal from Andre Fonseca, however the Panthers didn't allow the Vikings to score the equalizer and held on for a 3-2 victory.

With the win, the second seeded Panthers improved to 11-1-1 overall on the season and will face off against Nassau CC in the quarterfinals, which will take place on Wednesday, October 24th, at 12 noon at Pier 40!
