The Panthers got on the board first as Kevin Romero (El Salvador) found Brandon Baird (Brooklyn, NY) cutting to the box, and Brandon put it right past the goalie for a 10th minute goal and a 1-0 Panthers lead. The Panthers, who controlled the ball for the majority of the first half, added to their lead in the 36th minute when Kalief Lindo (Jamaica, NY) received a great pass from Stephanos Hondrakis (Athens, Greece)Â and put the Panthers up 2-0 which is where it stood until halftime. Westchester trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with a 55th minute goal by Michael Portanova. The Panthers quickly answered with a goal in the 63rd minute by Brandon Baird, his 2nd of the game, this one assisted by Anton Wesener (Italy) for a 3-1 Panthers lead. Westchester got the game close with an 86th minute goal from Andre Fonseca, however the Panthers didn't allow the Vikings to score the equalizer and held on for a 3-2 victory. With the win, the second seeded Panthers improved to 11-1-1 overall on the season and will face off against Nassau CC in the quarterfinals, which will take place on Wednesday, October 24th, at 12 noon at Pier 40!Print Friendly Version
