Panthers Open CUNYAC Season With Win Against Broncos

Bronx, NY | The BMCC baseball team opened the 2017 CUNYAC season with a three game series against Bronx Community College this weekend. The Panthers jumped out to a 2-run lead in the first inning and continued to pile on the runs to come away with a 5-3 victory in Game 1.

Panthers starter Steven Dominguez picked up his first win of the season by striking out five and allowing just three hits through five innings. BMCC freshman Eduardo Findlay pitched the final six outs to pick up his first career save.

The Panthers were led on offense by shortstop Maximo Garcia who went 2-4 with 2 runs and first baseman Kenny Berihuete who went 1-1 and drove in a run. Sophomore Darwin Nivar got the scoring started in the first with an RBI double to center field that drove in Garcia, followed by a sacrifice fly from Berihuete. The Panthers picked up 2 more runs in the fourth before Christopher Rodriguez drove a runner in with a sac fly in the fifth.

BMCC travelled to Ohio Field in the Bronx on Sunday for an afternoon doubleheader. Despite scoring a combined 16 runs in two games, the Panthers came up short as they fell 9-17 and 7-15.

The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday with a home game against the Queensborough Tigers at 4pm.
